Antigua

The island of Antigua is only a few hours away from the Washington DC area. An early morning flight from BWI will get you to Antigua, via San Juan, by early afternoon.

Antigua is in the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. It is renowned for having 365 beaches, one for each day of the year.

Galley Bay, Antigua The temperature varies little throughout the year, the winter months are between 75 to 85 degrees, and the summer months just a little higher. Throughout the year gentle breezes from the Atlantic fan the island, ensuring a healthy tropical climate. The sea is never cold!

The island is small, about 100 square miles. All visitors will need to hire a car, and these can be hired at the airport for about $40-$50 per day. The capital of Antigua is St Johns, just a few minutes from the airport, and is the main shopping center.

The Caribbean sea lies on the west coast of the island, and the Atlantic on the east coast. Most of the water sports and snorkelling activities are on the west coast, but there are some wonderful waves and beaches to match on the east coast.

Nelsons Dockyard in English Harbour, and Falmouth Harbour lie at the south eastern end of the island. These form a the hub for ocean going yachts, the Antigua Yacht Club, and the many sports and social activities that cater to the area. Squash courts, tennis courts and water sports can all be enjoyed from here. And of course, daily sailing trips around the island. There are many bars and restaurants in the area.
